 Reflection

For this exercise we were put in groups of 3 to 4 students and we had to determine how to figure out the cost of running a freight truck and at what speed maximizes profit. I found this to be a very useful exercise and very practical for me to use in real life. In this exercise we had to figure out the time it would take to travel a certain distance. We then figured out the rough miles per gallon the truck would get at different speeds. We then calculated the amount of fuel it should take for the delivery. We took those numbers and the driver's wage plus the amount that was figured for truck upkeep and created a formula that would help us figure out at what speed(MPH) would allow us to get the most profit per delivery.  Then we had to graph the function.

This exercise was a good exercise because it was easy to relate to a real life situation. I can see myself having to create an equation similar to this one in the future. This exercise has also helped me to be able to understand how to write an equation from a description much like one would have to in real life on the job. All in all I felt this was a great problem for us to do in math, I mean the more you make math relatable to people the more they are going to understand it.
